TIPS FOR CONTACTING CREATORS
After we connect you to your creator, it’s time to start prompting and talking about the auction you won! You can also contact creators about the following before bidding on them, and we encourage you to do so.
Please make sure to review your creator’s auction page to check what they are and aren’t willing to create. Here are some things to keep in mind as you’re contacting them:
- Respect your creator’s rates. For example, if they promised a 30k word count for your bid amount on their auction page and you want two 15k fics instead of one 30k fic, check to see if they’re okay with that. Please be mindful of their preferences when doing so.
- Check in with your creator about their preferences. Some people prefer flexible prompts, some prefer detailed prompts, and some don’t care either way. Some people prefer to share their WiP with the winner and get the winner’s input throughout the process. Others prefer discussing things in the beginning before working on their own and are only comfortable with sharing a work when it’s finished or almost finished. If you want the best work your creator can make, ask them what works best for them.
- Let them know your own likes and dislikes. You don’t want them to accidentally include one of your “do-not-wants” in their work.
- Consider giving your creator multiple prompts/options to choose from. However, if you’re dying to see them create a specific piece of work and it follows all of their requirements, then go for it! If you’re stuck on prompts, use the brainstorming channel on our Discord server. You can also ask your creator if they have any ideas they’d really like to work on.
- Be open-minded and trust their judgment. If they think the work will be more successful if they change parts of your prompt, then consider it. However, you don’t have to agree to it, and they should let you know if they stray from your request.
- Please be patient! Remember, people might have busy schedules around the end of the year, so make sure to talk about availability. Feel free to ask your creator for updates on their progress once in a while, but keep in mind that they volunteered their free time and services for a charitable cause and aren’t being compensated in any way. There’s a soft deadline of November 2025 for the work, but if your creator hasn’t specified when they expect to be finished, you should check in with them, especially if it’s a long and more time-consuming work.
As a reminder, we’re merely the organizers of this auction, and we won’t be involved in communications between you and your creator once we put you in contact with each other. We hope that you and your creator can work things out between yourselves.
However, we want this to be a good experience for everyone so if any problems arise, feel free to contact us at marveltrumpshate@gmail.com, and we’ll do our best to work something out. We’ll also check in with everyone twice a year so that we can keep track of which auctions have been filled or not.
If everything goes perfectly and you receive your requested fanwork, we’d love for you to share it with us. We’ll happily reblog your Tumblr posts about filled auctions, share links on our Discord fills channel and monthly roundups on Tumblr and Twitter, or post thank you notes to creators on your behalf!
